Rules Overview 2 – Combat Concepts

Calamity is going to be using a completely new rules system, you will see familiar elements from different game systems as well as some elements we believe are unique. We understand that many of you will have a hard time deciding on a character until you see the rules, please be assured we are working diligently to finalize the rules and begin playtests.

In this post we'll look at combat concepts:

Combat

Hit Location. Calamity will be using a hit location system as opposed to a hit point system. This means that your character’s body is split into multiple hit locations for resolving damage. There will be abilities and mystic effects that will allow a character to take more than a single hit to a location.

Bringing a Knife to a Gun Fight. Calamity is a western, and as such will make extensive use of firearms in the form of Nerf guns. Yes, we will still have melee combat and are working to balance that against ranged combat, however there will be some truth to the old saying about bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Armor. A mainstay in almost every fantasy and sci-fi game we did not feel it kept the feel of the western genre, so there will be no physical armor worn in Calamity. No armor has the added benefit of making it easier to feel hits from Nerf guns and spellpackets.
